Question LT1 vs. '00 GT differences

Sorry this isn't a track story, but I wasn't sure where to put this. Thing is, I used to drive a 00 Performance Red Mustang GT with a 5-speed. The thing was awesome especially after a put straight pipes in it . However, when I got my current car i decided to go where the power was. My question is: I've noticed that when racing the GT the revs would stay up there around 6 grand between shifts, but with the firebird the revs drop like a rock(gives a nice WAAAH sound IMHO), why is that? Is my car really fighting for air up there compared with the mod motor or is it a difference in flywheel weights? I know this is kindof a strange question but its been bothering me for awhile.

BTW, if you were looking for a kill story, I once raced a friends 00 GT vertible with intake, chip, gears, and exhaust, and absolutely started walking him once I hit 2nd, and this was before the headers.

It's probably the computer in the LT1 letting the revs drop quick and the computer in the 4.6 holding the revs longer. That's funny how you pounded that GT so bad in your LT1. Sounds like the GT driver sucks. Stock for stock those cars are good, close races.

I believe this is due to the overhead cam setup. My buddies old 98 GT, he could sit there, with it in park, rev it, and it would take 4-5 seconds to come back down to idle (it would idle down in the 4-5 seconds), however i could sit beside him in my LT1, and rev mine up, and down 2-3 times while he was waiting on his to idle down. I could be wrong, but its what we came up with for an excuse, lol.

I've noticed this as well with the overhead cam setup as well, and not just on V-8s. Although I'm not really sure whether it's that or it's more about where the powerband is, and how much drag there is. LT1 internals are probably a little heavier than the 4.6s, and the powerband is situated a little lower (LT1 is hurting up top). A good explanation by someone knowledgeable on this would be good.

Hmm..I guess I was saying no to stock GTs and LT1s being good, close races.

How far do you think they are apart in the 1/4 mile?

A few tenths, but noticable. I'm not at all saying the GTs are slow, btw. Just the LT1 would be the clear victor. I don't remember if I had ever raced a new 4.6L GT. Whatever. No big deal.

From what I have seen on average stock for stock they are nearly identical in the 1/4 mile, maybe the LT1 has a .05 second advantage.

A bone stock LT1 and a bone stock 99-04 GT is a driver's race. Both are capable of high 13's, most run low 14's.

What about the old 5 liter Ford motors, do they drop revs quickly or slowly?

I can't remember, but regardless, it doesn't matter - it means nothing.
