03 mach 1 vs 01 ss

just got in from a night of racing. i got two of my buddies to race my buddy just bought his 03 mach 1 m5 a couple months ago and he just got a magnaflow catback other than that its all stock. my other friend has an 01 ss m6 bone stock down to the filter. the first race my buddy in the mach shifted into 2nd at 4k rpm like a moron. i told him 2 redline it but we lost by 2 car lengths. fifteen min later we raced again this time my buddy used the powerband in the mach and took it all the way to 7500-8k rpm and we walked the ss by a car length till 135 and the ss started comin back and movin a lil past us. this was perfect drivin from both drivers now im a big f-body guy i love them and i never thought a n/a mustang 4v could ever take an ls1 ss or ws6 m6. i was impressed, so after the 2nd race my buddy wit the ss talks crap to my buddy wit the mach and keeps sayin his stang is a turd and it is 4.6 liters of total **** i hate when ppl get pissed when they lose, especially friends hahahah... now my other friend with an 05 mustang gt wants to run the mach but i think the mach will win. its pretty quick. i have i new found respect for ford motor co.

Sounds pretty even to me.

Good story. Sounds like your friend isn't used to any competition.

Red line on a Mach is 6800.

Good run. Anybody who knows anything knows that it's a driver's race between a Mach and an LS1, with the slight edge to the LS1 (assuming equal drivers.)

The 05 shouldn't present too much of a problem (assuming equal drivers. )

But don't the Mach's have around 325hp and weigh less than your average equipped LS1 fbody?? I thought for the longest time the slight edge would go to the Mach? Then again, the LS1 does put out some torque?

Good story, but taking an '03 Mach up to 7500 - 8000 rpm isn't possible with the stock 6800-rpm rev-limiter in place.
The computer will start pulling fuel @ around 7100 rpm.

Also, stock or near-stock Mach 1's like to be shifted at 6700/6800 for the 1/2 shift, 6400/6500 for the 2/3 shift & 5800/5900 for the 3/4 shift to achieve the quickest acceleration possible...

Re: 03 mach 1 vs 01 ss

yea i was mistaken wit the 7500-8k rpm shifting i assumed we went that far cause i heard the rev limiter and i seen after we raced the rpm's top out at 8k. we went to the redline in the mach until we hit the limiter everytime. now my buddy with a 99 ws6 a4 wants to run the mach. everybody wants a piece of the mach now hahahah. the ta just has a borla y pipe and an slp loudmouth cat back. i think the a4 ws6 might edge him out cause it breathes better and is propably more consistent with all the shifts. o yea and i just drove the mach 1 for the 1st time and boy that clutch is a pain and the gearbox wasnt the most pleasant. imo much easier clutch and better gearbox in the ss.

Re: 03 mach 1 vs 01 ss

Stock shifter sucks in a Mach. I changed that quick with a MGW short throw. Also not a good idea to bounce off the rev limiter every shift. 7050 rpms is not making use of the power band. Somebody already said the correct shift points 6700-6800,6500,6000 for 1st,2nd,3rd. I just put my Nitto 555 dr's on yesterday. Best mod yet!
As for F-bodys....I'm 3 and 2 againest LS1's (03 Corvette M6 and 02 SS) and 2-0 LT1's. I expect 12's with this new found traction. 4.10's are next!

P.S. The clutch is self adjustable in the Mach. Tell your buddy to read his owners manual.

Huh? I know some of us have poor grammar skills, some can't type, but the opening post is one of the worst attacks on the English language I have ever read. Where is the use of proper capitalization, abbreviations, punctuation, syntax and context? When do numbers substitute for words? I think the story is okay, as long as you can convert the coded terminology into standard English, then identify each the abbreviations, adjust for capitalization and grammar errors.

Otherwise, it seemed like a fun comparison between two, seemingly comparative, automobiles.

I do wish that more of us would use the keyboard properly. Text messaging run amok!

First, i dont think anyone cares about grammer and punctuation as long as its readable. And I am surprised by the result especially the part about the Mach pullin to 135. That LS1 SS needs a major tune up if its gettin pulled over 110-115. I could see it being even up until that point, but thats where the LS1 should start to pull a lot of things, especially a Mach with just exhaust. Id suggest a tuneup, then a rematch.

I agree with the LS1 pulling over 115. But since I race in the 1/8th mostly it will be all over by then.

i still cant get over how some of you only have 1/8 mile tracks in your area. yeah, better than no track, but what happened!?! "hey guys we are out of black top....good enough!"

mostly agree. an 01-2 f-body m6 would handle one pretty easily
most will trap in the 108 range and that is to much for the mach (stock)

The mach 1 is a contender

Do you know the best shift points through each gear for the ls1?
