weights on rear brakes

What do they do? I'm doing all kinds of weight reductions on my daily driver and wondering if I can get rid of these without affects. the front brakes dont have weights...

I took mine off when I put on the BMR LCA relo brkts... You can live with out them just fine. I am guessing the were put there to absorb vibrations or squeaks....
