Removing front struts

Im removing my front shocks to install the lowering springs and it wont come loose from the upper control arm mount. The lower strut mount came loose, and all 4 top bolts and nuts came out fine, but the whole control arm, steering knuckle and strut wants to come out. Anybody know a good way to seperate the strut from the upper control arm mount. Thanks Prorac1

Re: Removing front struts

did you loosen the sway bar on that side? With the sway bar loosened the whole assembly should fall down and then you can rotate the upper a arm out and pull the shock out. Without the sway bar loosened though the lower a arm will keep preasure and you will probably have to pound out the shock.

The upper spring seat has the 4 bolts/studs, and the upper A-arm mount is sandwiched between the upper spring mount and the top of the shock tower. Possibly the upper spring seat and the A-arm mount are rusted together, and need to be pried apart????

No "struts" on a 4th Gen.... they are coil-over shocks in an unequal A-arm suspension.
