Re: upper control arm bushing

I did mine about a year ago and found that the lower ball joints were oversized when compared to the ones that came with the car.
The difference in diameter was .017"
I had to turn them down in order to be able to press them in place.
Good luck with your rebuild

Exclamation Re: upper control arm bushing

Took my strut assy to shop to have springs compressed and new shocks put in . found out the spring was broken so got a new set of moog springs. But the guy forgot to replace the cover sleeve on the shock. Is this something that I have to redo or go with

Re: upper control arm bushing

There is a bump stop inside the front shock sleeve IIRC.
Someone correct me if wrong.

Re: upper control arm bushing

You are correct.... the sleeve includes the bump stop. I managed to move the stock sleeve to my QA1 shocks when I installed them.

I'm still trying to understand how the spring could be broken, and not be obvious, just from looking at the coil-over spring/shock assembly (it is not a "strut"). You'd have two pieces of spring rattling loosely on the shock.

Wink Re: upper control arm bushing

Yes I guess I got duped into believing the spring was broken .I did take it apart with the loaner tool from A zone and replace the sleeve with the bump stop .I guess with 129,000 miles it didn't hurt to change the springs. Got it all together and put away for winter . And I'll get it aligned in the spring since I have now put storage insurance on it. Thank you guys for all your help

Unhappy Re: upper control arm bushing

Well I'm back .Have gotten the Camaro out and aligned and all moving parts are new .Took it out for a ride .Don't really know what I was expecting but I figured it would ride nicer and tighter. Man this thing now drives like a tank Maybe the bushing weren't what I needed to make it ride better. Every bump is now amplified and I just don't like the ride Put a hundred miles on it yesterday and it may ride a little better but hope I'm not just getting used to it .any comments appreciated. Thanks Richard

Re: upper control arm bushing

Poly will feel more solid than worn out rubber, but from my experience, not all that harsh.

The other things that can affect firmness of the suspension are the spring rate and the firmness of the shocks. What springs did you get, what shocks?

If you expected all these new parts to replicate the soft, sloppy ride of the old, worn out components, your expectations were not realistic.

Re: upper control arm bushing

I'm guessing Nikko's issues were resolved with more miles and some break-in of the new components.

He did what I want to do but thinking I'd go with new rubber instead of poly bushings. The shocks I want are the SLP-valved Bilstein's.
