Transmission crossmember and upper PHB upgrade.

Does the transmission crossmember do anything other than support the transmission. I see some companies sell conversion crossmembers. I dont think anyone sells just a stock replacement for the 4l60, but if they did, would it be worth anything other than underbody dress up? Would it help stiffen up the chasis a little bit?

Also the upper PHB relocation kit the BMR sells. Does this do anything other than add more clearance for the exhaust pipe. Does the upper PHB have the stress that the lower PHB has on it, and would the upper PHB relocation kit be an upgrade?

The tranny cross-member doesn't seem to do much more than hold up the tranny. They can be reinforced for very high HP applications, particularly when you modify a stock M6 cross-member to support a TH400. But I've seen the modified M6 cross-member carry 1350HP in a 4th Gen. And that's in a convertible, with its inherently weaker chassis.

The upper panhard rod stabilizes the body mounting arm for the panhard rod. Again, I've seen the stock bar removed and no problems (at least in a "straight-line" applications) on a very high HP application (mid-8 second 4th Gen). Not exactly sure why the entire panhard rod was lowered though, except possibly clearance for the 9-inch cover.

THe upper PHB was dropped like that to provide clearance for Dual Exhaust. With both pipes routing over the rear axle on the PASS side.

If you had Double Diamond SFC's The better Crossmember would, in theroy, help tie both sides in a little better than the stocker would. -Or am I thinking of the tunnel brace??

Yeah, the tunnel brace ties the SFC's together, the crossmember is a little more toward the front of the car and holds the rear of the tranny.

^YEah... I thought of that after I typed it..

Oh well... The trans crossmember I imagine would also add a small level of rigidity to the tunnel..

Yeah, I dont think it would hurt, but I cant find one for a stock 4L60E. The only ones I see are for tranny swaps.
