sway bar off

so i was a little skeptical of takign the front sway bar off. but i was reading the posts on it and i decided to take it off today. i went driving around a little bit just to see how it acted, and it was hookin really well. i just need to do the rear suspension now to keep the right rear even with the left rear. woudl the rear sway bar do the trick.

its mainly for drag.....i only take it out on weekends normally just around town to shows. you don't necesarilly need the front sway bar. i was just doing some stoplight runs. it still handles fine just not at high speeds which i am not even going to try. without the front bar, it just plants the rear on the ground and launched

What do you mean by "keep the right rear even with the left rear?" Do you mean keep the rear from rolling in a turn?

I think he means at launch off the line drag racing. And Patt did your car definately spin less light to light without the front bar.

Just wondering if removing the front sway bar is complicated?? I hear some people just unbolt the endlinks it and leave it in place to help weight transfer, but would it be that hard to just remove it completely? I guess I'll look into this next time I'm down there changing the oil... I'll probably just unbolt it at the track and bolt it back up for the street.

By removing it completely, you are getting the benefit of both weight transfer and some weight reduction. Its not hard to remove it completely, but it isn't a wise idea on a street car. Best bet would just be to unbolt one side at the track and button it back up when done.

The day after I bought my car, I took it out and hit the 160mph speed limiter. The car handled fine at that speed. Never gave it a second thought. The next day, I had it on a lift and saw that the front sway bar was missing! I got that sinking feeling in my stomach.....When I buy cars, I would NEVER check to see if the front sway bar is there. I sure as hell do now! Lucky for me, I'm still around to tell people about it. That mistake will never happen again.

The naysayers that are against you removing the front sway bar can get pretty dramatic.
It will be fine if you remove the front sway bar. This is a straight line drag racing only mod though so keep these thoughts in mind.
Do not take corners like speedracer.
Do not jump on the gas until the car is in a straight line.
Do keep your distance from other vehicles on the road to avoid any panic movements.
If your willing to make these sacrifices then you should be fine. Remember stuff happens and I personally would think twice about doing it on a daily driver.
My car has no front sway bar, even the brackets are gone cause I aint ever putting it back on. It also has no power steering and runs on skinnies all the time.
I pay very close attention to it while driving it, but this is something everyone should do whenever they are behind the wheel of any motor vehicle.

There's a whole lot of other things I would check on a used car before I took it up to 160 mph

I just put in some energy suspension polyurethane endlinks from summit racing and have to say my car handles like a dream around the corners and at high speeds. there is literally no rolling at all. keeping your swaybar in is definatly worth it. I do more daily driving then drag racing so its up to you

I was wondering the same thing.. I think he means to keep the car level on a launch. Personally, I don't understand exactly how removing the front SB would effect this. Other than the weight reduction.

THe front sway might effect the rear on a stiff suspension. I can see it in my head but I can't explain it. The engine TQ's the drive line to basically turn the car counterclockwise on a hard launch. if the front end is on the ground the FT sway should make the car level off. ... Correct me if I'm wrong....

IMO, I wouldn't drive my car on the streets w/o the front SB. I can't even stand DDing my stockers...

i mean to keep the car from rolling to the side during launch. it drives fine on the street. i noticed it a little at first but now it feels fine. i definately felt better from light to light. i hit it pretty hard a few times and it was planting the rear really well. it looks really cool too when the front end wants to pull straight up.
