Subframe connectors, needed? Kind?

Subframe connectors, needed? Kind?
Hey guys, I'm puttin in a new motor around 400 rwhp. The guy I bought the motor from highly suggested me to get some, is it truly needed?? Might go to the strip but probably not anytime soon. Also, got a t-top car, lowered. What is the best kind? I was looking online at some, would a t top be considered full top car? Don't want some connectors that hang real low on my car, since it is lowered! Thanks guys!

I think they are a good idea. I ran a bolt-on LT1 with a 125-shot of nitrous (t-top car) and didn't opt for SFC's. Didn't do any damage that I could tell. But when I went to the stroker/300-shot setup (800HP/.800lb-ft) I had a chrome moly custom roll bar installed, and had them install chrome moly SFC"s that are integrated with the roll bar. The car stiffened up a lot. Like most cars with SFC's, jack up a wheel, and the entire side of the car comes off the ground.
Mine tend to hang a bit low, because of the way they set them up, but no problems at stock ride height. The ready-make SFC's from shops like Spohn Performance tuck in very tight behind the rocker panels.

You don't save much weight with only chrome moly SFC's. I did chrome moly because of the roll bar, and saved about 40#. The welding is a bit more difficult as well, compared to mild steel.

Re: Subframe connectors, needed? Kind?
Now installing them, is it ok to just weld them in on a two post lift with the suspension and everything hanging? Or does it have to have the body weigh on the car? A buddy of mine said his 04 cobra has to have the weight of the car on the suspension, not sure which is right?

Re: Subframe connectors, needed? Kind?
sorry to thread jack, but are there any issues doing work on the underside of the car, like say removing the exhaust with the sfc in there? i want to get weld in ones for the extra strength, but i want to keep my options open...

Re: Subframe connectors, needed? Kind?
Zero interference with the straight SFC'S on non-convertible versions. Some of the stronger multi point supports (as in double diamond, or SFC's for verts) are a different story I'm thinking

Re: Subframe connectors, needed? Kind?
Sub frame connectors keep the body from flexing during hard acceleration, the damage that can be seen is usually on the rear fenders in front of the rear wheels, you will see "rippling" of the fender when looking down the side of the vehicle.
My 2001 Z28 (Sara) is stock motor that dyno's @: 298RWHP/325RWTQ (@5800 RPM). My point? EVERY F body profits from the installation of sub frame connectors.
