Steering is Creaking

I'm getting a creaking sound while I'm turning the wheel. It sounds like the suspension unsettling, but I don't think it could be that. If I just turn the wheel just a little bit it will creak. I think it may have something to do with the rack, but I'm not too sure on that either. Thanks for any help.

Re: Steering is Creaking

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem. At first I thought it was the rag joint eliminator, but it's not. I had a friend turn the wheel back and forth while I listened under the hood and the creak sound definitely sounds like it's coming from the rack.

I wonder if there's an adjustment on the rack to fix it; or if it just needs to be replaced.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thomas.

I just looked through my service manual and found there is an adjustment to set the rack pre-load.

Any steering experts know if this adjustment needs to be done from time to time?

Thomas.
