Spohn LCA loud as HE!!

Just bought some double adj. LCA's and they are loud as crap. every small bump i hit they make a lot of noice. I went under the car again and made sure that the rod ends lined up nicely in the center of the brackets. the drivers side is not that much louder than stock, but the pass. side is going to drive me crazy! What could it be if just one side is making the noice?

Nothing really. LCAs with rod ends make noise. But not usually right away. You probably got a bad rod end or two.

Re: Spohn LCA loud as HE!!

When installing, what is the best thing to do and use to lube the rod ends?

I installed my adj. poly/rod combo, but haven't put the rear end back into the car yet. Just wondering what to do when I do.

Thanks.

Tightened up all the way? I installed Hotchkis LCA's a number of years ago and I've never had a problem w/ them.

Hmm, a) so we would all know, and b) perhaps you installed them "dry" when you should not have (don't know for sure, hence why I asked), and c) prevent starting a new post on the same subject.

On my '88 I have poly LCA but rod end PHR and I noticed no major noise with the PHR. I used "chassis grease" on them when I installed them.

so back to the double adj. rodended, nothing should be causing it to make noise only on one side that anyone can think of?

Did you buy them new or used?

If installation is correct, i'd bet that you've got a bad rod end.

Re: Spohn LCA loud as HE!!

did you use spacers for the bolts?

rod ends are noisey any way, a lot more than rubber. expecially if you connected them to the car with rod ends. i'd take that connection off and buy either polly or rubber bushings to insert there. i did that and i have absolutely no more noise than normal but much better performance.

rod ends shouldnt be lubed with anything but the race they came in. they dont need lube at all...and actually that will cause them to wear faster. it's a huge dirt collector(oil and grease).

Re: Spohn LCA loud as HE!!

I have the Spohn adjustable LCA's with the rod ends, and they don't make any more noise than you would expect a rod end to make.... nothing that's annoying or audible over the very loud exhaust.

When you mentioned checking that the rods ends are "lined up nicely in the center of the brackets".... what did you mean? The rod ends are "centered" in the brackets by the ferrules that come with the LCA's. Are you sure both the bolts you are using on the noisy side are the correct diameter for the sleeve in the rod end? Did you torque the bolts to spec?
