Shop trying to rip me off on a front end alignment? extra work?

k $49.95 for a "thrust alignment" pretty normal... front end alignment... steering wheels a little to the right... old tires worn unevenly.

i go to inquire abotu an alignment... he tells me the $49.95... then i mention what kind of car i have...

and he goes into something about POSSIBLY having to drill/port some stud surrounding or holes or something? on something having to do with the struts, ($30 a side)... then i mention my strut tower brace... (which is not your typical strut brace, and would be a MAJOR pita and about 3 hours straight to take out and put back in... and he told me that would have to come out too...

is this guy out of his gord? should i just go to another shop and get my standard $50 alignment? or is it true... these things have to be done on my car?

There is nothing to cut or "port" on an f-body. Only on cars with struts. Since the f-body has shocks and they have nothing to do with the alignment I would take your car somewhere else. This guy either has no idea what he is talking about, or he hopes you have no idea what he's talking about. Either way go somewhere else and post the name of the shop so no one else gets screwed by this guy.

He's got your car mixed up with the 82-92 f-body

Evidently he dosn't know his F-bodies very well. The third gen cars had a camber plate that was rivited from the factory. They did this so the camber wouldn't get screwed up if the strut was removed. Installing a strut tower brace made the camber imposible to adjust on these cars. 4th gen cars don't use this .

Well hes wrong but I'm more curious as to why a strut tower brace would take you 3 hours to take off and put back on? Should take 5 minutes or so each way.

like i said... not your normal simple... side over the strut studs and tighten down the nuts single bar, brace.

i needed a small crowbar.. a hammer... a buddy.. and a drill to get this thing in... its fairly hardcore

I have a 3rd gen 87 IROC-Z and never had any problem getting a normal alignment. In fact its only been aligned once in 18 yrs. And only then because I wanted a different spec on the front end.
