Shimming rear calipers.....

Has anybody here had to shim their rear calipers to "center" them over the rotor? I used to have an annoying rear brake squeak. I pilled the rear wheels off and noticed that there was space between the inner pad and rotor, and the outer was always touching. I got 4 washers that are about a 1/32-inch thick and placed them between the caliper and backing plate. The caliper is now centered, with space between both pads and the rotor, and the brake squeak is now gone. Anyone else ever had to do this?

Probably so. GM makes a shim specifically for this.

no, hes talking about the caliper holder. your caliper is tilted like that because of the ebrake. I think there is a way to adjust it. It might be on www.shbox.com under the how to section

I took it to the shop and they pulled the shims off of the caliper and it seems so far to be not sticking. Damn that's frustrating, such a small part can cause such frustration...

i've seen that one time before. it was after an axle replacement. the replacement axle had a larger c clip gap and allowed for a little more movement so on a hard turn, the caliper bracket actually rubbed on the rotor. the fix was either to shim the caliper bracket or get a thicker c clip. my 2 cents
