Replacing Rear Caliper

Hi - I'm replacing a rear caliper on my 1995 Formula. The new caliper came with an "H" clip; but I don't know what it does? Or where it goes. The old caliper didn't have such a part that I could see. It's 17 in the picture below,

This is a Shoebox post from another site:

There is an H looking thin piece of metal on the stock rears, but it does not go behind the pad. It goes in the space above the center, top of the pad, between the pad and caliper.
