Remove tail shaft to get on torque arm bracket

To make a long story short. I forgot to put the torque arm bracket on when installing my transmission. As most of you know then you can't get the bolts in there. With the new motor mounts the tranny won't sag enough either. I guess my last option is to take the tail shaft off? Can anybody give me important information on doing this? I already filled the trans with fluid. I just don't know if there is any seal or anything in that tail shaft. Is it something I can just unbolt and then bolt right back up after I get the bracket on? I assume all the oil is going to come out then too right? Somebody please fill me in.

If you can't reposition the TA at the tranny, you could always unbolt the TA from the differential to move the arm in place.

I don't think you understood what I was saying OBE1 95Z28. The whole torque arm is off its the clamp that bolts to the tail shaft of the tranny that I can't get on. Your supposed to put it on before you even lift up the tranny but I forgot. I just need to know whats involved in taking off that tail shaft?

I wouldn't pull the tailshaft housing off. Did you try jacking on the front of the engine to drop the tailshaft lower? I've done that, putting a block of wood under the damper. Just don't get carried away and break the damper. I'm assuming the A4 TA mount is similar to the one use on the M6, with one long bolt that is attached to the TA mount and has to be passed thru the hole in the tailshaft housing.

I have had my torque arm bracket off and did not remove the tailshaft housing. You just have to be creative with the transmount and engine/transmission position.
