I have been noticing for some reason lately that only when I turn to the right only my right rear tire spins. BUt when i go left both spin. Well today my rear-end broke on me on my way home. Needless to say I went off the road and smacked a tree at about 30mph. I demolished my passengerside headlight, fender, my hood, and my front bumper. The ironic thing is that morning a maitenence guy that works at my apartments ask me if I needed any parts for my car. 10 hours later I did. So he is selling me a ram air hood for $100 (which i wanted anyway before I wrecked cause it was ram air). Im ognna see if the rear-end is good on it. My main concern is on the rear end would it be better for me to get only new axles or should I get the whole assembly? I got a price from someone else for $450 for the whole rearend. I havent got a price from the maintence guy yet but im hoping that his rear-end is still in good shaped. Also if worse comes to worse. Where can I order body parts. The rear end doesnt make noise right now but but the rear wheels are off line bad.

 

How does your rear end breaking cause you to hit a tree? I wouldn't pay $450 for a rear end thats way to high. I'd say $250 is the most i'd pay for a 3.42 rear. You probably need some new LCA's if you are saying your "rear end is off line".

 

I would also check your frame for straightness, These uni-bodys tend to tweak when you hit something like a tree

 

450.00 for a rear does sound high considering alot of people are dumping them off in the 200.00 range or less. As for body parts, check the Parts for Sale forum on this board, there are always alot of body parts floating around and Ebay is also another place. The other option is the dealer but you will pay good money for their stuff.

 

Maybe that price was from a Used auto parts place, like a Parts recycle center. i know thats the going rate for a 3.42 rear from those places around here. A 2.73 rear goes for $350 or so as well. I am with Z95m6 on this, how the hell did you hit a tree cuz your rear broke?

 

Maybe that suds water got that tree.

Axle breaking or spider gears while accelerating will turn one HARD.

 

My rear tires locked up for a split second just enough to kick the rear out a little.

 

OH MY GOD. I just crossed the best luck i've had in a long time. I needed a radiator, headlight, front bumper, hood, fender, radiator support brace and a couple other small things for the front end. My fiance's sister (who works for a junk yard) know's a guy who has a 95 red trans am but he cant get the title for it. He is gonna cut the front end off from the windshield up and deliver it to my house. He wanted $1500 for it and he asked who it was for and she said it was for her. He said he would take $600 for the whole front clip. I had some bad luck but its awesome when its followed with great luck. I needed a couple new motors for the headlights also. Now i got them. Thanks for the replies though guys.

 

You need to post this stuff on the correct forum.... getting a replacement for body parts and a rear axle assembly does NOT belong on LT1/LT4 Engine Tech. Moving to "Chassis......". Probably shuold have put it in "Parts Wanted" from the beginning.
