Rear sway bar brackets on rear end

I'm going to be putting in a Strange 12 bolt rear end and need new brackets for the sway bar (they look like muffler clamps on the axle tubes). Anyone know where I can get just the brackets because I already have all the bushings and everything for the sway bar, just need a way to mount it. I was thinking of just ordering the stock ones but I think my axle tubes on my 12 bolt are bigger than the factory 10 bolt so that won't work. Any suggestions?

Re: Rear sway bar brackets on rear end

The Strange axle tubes are the same diameter as the stock 10-bolt axle tubes. The stock u-bolts/brackets fit fine. The Strange will even have the little "tab" welded to the bottom of the tubes that fits in the notch on the stock brackets, and keeps them from rotating on the axle tube.

If you get the LPW aluminum cover with your Strange, you will find that when the body drops, the sway bar center rotates up and hits the raised part at the bottom/rear of the cover where it says "LPW". To solve this, you extend the notches in the stock mounting brackets so that the brackets can be rotated on the axle slightly to move the sway bar back slightly, eliminating the interference with the cover. Hard to see in this photo.

I have an online procedure for the Strange install.... might seem sort of simple, but it might give you a couple hints on things that might not go exactly as you think they might.

Re: Rear sway bar brackets on rear end

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll order some new sway bar brackets from GM since the ones on my 10-bolt are all rusty.
