Rear brake "weights"

What purpose do the rear brake weights serve for the 93-97 style brake calipers. I never really paid that much attention to them until I noticed that my LCA relocation brackets say to trim the weights down some.

You may or may not have to trim them, depending on room needed. The "weight" is a vibration dampener.

Is there a certain amount of clearance that is necessary between the bracket and the weights? Mine are not contacting the relo brackets as is.

I'd just see if you get any evidence of contact. Otherwise, I would not worry about it. I don't know of a minimum clearance spec.
