Question about 1LE susp.

I am considering a 1LE sway bar and panhard rod bar for my 95 Z28. A friend of mine has said I would have to be careful cause that stiffer bar would make my Z ride very rough. I kinda belive him due to articles I have read back when the Camaro SS re-dubted with the same setup. Is my friend right about the stiff ride? Anyone have the same setup and experience? Thanks for reading and posting.

Re: Question about 1LE susp.

Does your friend have a 1LE panhard rod or sway bar?

Panhard rods do not make a ride stiffer (actually I think 1LE PHR's are the same as FE2 normal suspension PHR's), nor does a sway bar. They make the ride more "rigid". By that I mean PHR and sway bars make the car more stable. Both of those suspension parts have to do with cornering, not stiffness. They will keep the car from rolling and having the backend shift away from the axle.

PHR = keeps axle and body of car aligned together.

sway bar = prevents body roll.

Obviously the stiffer and better both these are, the better the cornering will be. Then of course there is always the point of getting oversteer/understeer.

1LE sway bar is bigger than FE2 so the upgrade is worth it, for PHR, I think they are the same size so it isn't worth it. I could be wrong though.

Your ride wont get any worse. Go ahead and get the bar. THe panhard bar is the same as the stock unit with better bushings I believe. I would skip that one and save my money towards a tubular adjustable piece.

Re: Question about 1LE susp.

The early SS had the 1LE front springs 360 vrs 290, that will make the ride stiffer.

I don't think the 32mm sway bar would cause a problem should be a nice upgrade. $29.00 on ebay from gryhead.com

I would leave the panhard alone unless it is failing.

Thanks for the posts. I have learned a little bit. I was curious though about the ride, cause the SS I alwasy heard was so harsh, yet the WS6 was very stable , and yet they had almost the same setup. Thanks again

Re: Question about 1LE susp.

i'd skip past the 1LE and go straight for a 35mm bar. As said, it's the springs and and sometimes improperly adjusted shocks that will harshen it. The 1le panhard isn't worth the trouble of swapping.
