Panhard rod install help...

I was trying to install my Edelbrock adjustable panhard rod tonight but I couldn't get the old bolts out, they're real old and rusted. Anybody have any tips on getting them loose? Thanks I'm going to give it a shot again tomorrow.

I'll probably have more questions as I go along I'll just post them in here.
Thanks again.

Re: Panhard rod install help...

Spray them with some PB Blaster penatrating oil and let them soak overnight.

Re: Panhard rod install help...

First I tried WD40, heat, and a big impact gun... no luck - it was rusted solid.

So I put a wrench on one end, wedged up against the frame. On the other end of the bolt, I put a 24" breaker bar / socket. I ended up litterally standing on the breaker bar, and bouncing up and down a bit. Eventually, the bolt broke.

You can either do it that way or grind it off.

WD40 is not a rust penetrant. Use the strong stuff.

Re: Panhard rod install help...

I remember that was the hardest part of the job for me as well. The old bolts were seized in there pretty good and a ratchet and a breaker bar were not helping me. I sprayed the bolts with PB Blaster, waited a couple of hours, and then used an impact and zipped them right off.

That stuff became my best friend when doing the headers. I sprayed all the old rusted bolts down real good and let them soak for a day or so. Then everything came right off without any incident.
