Over the counter Rotors...

I have a 01 Camaro Z28 and as most of us know, these cars pretty much eat through rotors like candy.

Now the scenerio is, you don't have time to wait for shipping for a high quality rotor as the job has to be done ASAP... What Rotor would you recommend that can be purchased from Autozone, Advanced, Napa or OReilys?

My experience... and keep in mind that all installation procedures were the same and the car experienced simular driving conditions. I am using old brake fluid still, I have greased the Sliding Pins and touqued the wheels to 100Ftlbs. I do not really drive my car hard. I mean, living where I do I do have to see some 60 MPH - 0 stops because of Stop signs (speed limit is 55 on the road I live on) and of course there's your daily grind of Rush Hour traffic... But I have yet to Brake above 75 MPH during these occurances and I give myself plenty of stopping room (I don't tailgate)...

I was told many F-Body members have had good experience with Duralast rotors so I tried them...

I must be one of the unfortunate few because these rotors didn't even last a full SEVEN DAYS before warping and this wasn't even driving through rain. I used my warranty to replace them under the circumstance that perhaps they were defective. Throw new Duralasts on, same results they warped instantly...

I was told that Valuecraft rotors actually weigh around 19 - 20 lbs... 2 lbs heavier than Duralasts so they may be less likely to warp?

Anyone have any other Off the counter Rotor Reccomendations? I have to drive this car to Florida soon and I can't wait for shipping... But I can't afford $500.00 + Brake Jobs either...

AutoZone used to carry an Aimco brand rotor that I used based on good reviews here, but I think the supplier may have changed. I run Baer Eradispeeds now so unfortunately I can't make another recommendation

I've had good luck with Wagner and Bendix rotors and I do brake hard from 80+ mph and my car is a daily driver. I'm running Axxis/PBR carbon metallic pads (Metal Master). They're not eating my rotors.

What pads are you running to be chewing up your rotors so quick?

From what I've seen, the value craft are only .5lbs heavier than the Duralast. If you have probs with the Duralast, nothing may help you. I've talked to several people that run them in auto-x w/out a prob.

Oh, and change your fluid!

Re: Over the counter Rotors...

if you're going through rotors....you need to change your pads...they;re too hard. a good pad will not destroy your rotors.

think of it like this. you have 2 friction surfaces. if one doesnt break away then the other will. i have hawk pads and there's dust everywhere...they stop like crazy but they break away easily enough. no...i had ceramic pads that worked wonders and were dust free....but i went through rotors like every other 5k miles. but they were so cheap it didnt matter....i just replaced the rotor.

which pads are you running?

oh, and BTW...there's only 2 manufacturers of stock replacement rotors in the US...so if you're running something from any parts place in the US then your running one of 2 brands. if you have rotor problems...it's not the rotors.

I'm definately changing the fluid next Brake Job... which will be this week... Although I am curious, why does it need to be changed?

So the pads can be chewing the rotors up? I'm unsure of the pads I'm using as they were excellent when I bought the car and still excellent (infact almost as if they never even wore) at 70K miles, I bought the car at 40K miles and assumed they were the stock pads...

Are you saying to stay away from U.S. Rotors or to buy them? What Rotors are made in the U.S.?

So let me ask you... If I bought Valuecraft rotors and soft pads... would that be a good / cheap combo?

It is hydrophillic. Simple answer water is attracted to it and reduces its ability to perform when hot.

Preferably buy your new fluid in a metal can.

Sounds like you have some hard pads. If pads are harder than your rotors then yes, they'll eat them up. It'll also cause excessive heat and warpage.

US rotors are good. The alternative would be Chinese castings with inferior mettallurgy.

Cheap combo. Any rotors listed with Axxis or Performance Friction cabon metallic pads.

How about Axxis Pads?
