One Last Problem !!! I Was So Close !!!
Well thanks to LPEDave and others on this board I got my panhard adjusted, and my swaybar fixed. Finally, I was done! The rolling chassis that is my car was finally... well, rolling.
so I thought....
I not only rebuilt/lowered/modified the suspension but I swapped over from drum brakes to disc. And when I asked about if the axles were different with drum v/s disc, my GM dealer said they had different part numbers, but they went into the back and couldn't find a difference in them. So, as they were always right before, I kept my stock ones. I am going to buy new ones later as mine are grooved slightly and I plan on a gear change later on down the line. So I thought all was good to go.
wrong....
I had another instant thought like i had with my swaybar, (
) and went out to the garage and saw I was right. The studs on the axles are way to short, they dont even pass through the top of the nut when fully tightened. So there is the difference, the dis axles have a longer studs. Even though the car wont be driven daily for a good while, I did want to so some testing when the drivetrain went in. I don't trust even 5 lugs with partial thread per wheel to drive it. And I don't want to tear all that back down again to remove my axles!!!
So, can I replace the studs with just removing the calipers? Or is there some kind of extension/something else I can do until I get ready to replace the axles, and the gears. (going from 3.23's to 342/73's) I figure per nut I have maybe 4 threads available.
Thanks...
