Need some rear Drum brake removal tips
Sorry Could't find an appropriate place to place this problem that I need help.
Sure seems I can't find a definate web page tutorial on how to take this Drum brakes off.My buddy needs help on taking off the drum brakes off a 91 GM 1/2 4X4 and we looked for the small insert in the backing plate to insert a flat screw driver to push off the drum,but seems theres isn't any one visible.Disc's I know how to do,but these weird drum stuff I taught I knew.Any thoughts on where to look?Thanks

This is what I hate most about drums. Loosening the adjuster might help, assuming there is a slot on the drum, but you might have to resort to a pry bar and a BFH. Stick the pry bar between the outside edge of the drum and the backing plate, and hammer on the pry bar (prying doesn't usually help much).

Make sure the emergency brake is off. A lot of drums have 2 threaded holes on the front that can be used to "jack" the drums off. They're approximately 1/4" in diameter.

my drums were rusted to my hubs
i needed a bfh and about a half hour of banging on the front of the drum
i thought banging from the inside would help get it off, but banging on the outside was easier and more effective
anyway first determine what the problem is
make sure the e-brake is off of course
if the drum slides out about a quarter inch then u need to adjust it
what happens is as the shoes wear, so do the drums, you create a little ridge in the drum, and the shoes have adjusted themselves so far out that they catch the ridge
if it doesnt move at all, not even a quarter inch, then the adjustment is not the problem (yet) and i go back to the first statement, using a bfh to break the rust loose
you could heat up the drum (be sure not to heat up the hub as much) but i'm not a big fan of heat

Thanks for the help.Im still a little cautious,but If banging will do I think ill try that.Funny I told my buddy it had a slot in the back plate and told him we just needed to drive a flat head and push it in there.Hammer the Flat head and that would be it.So after viewing the old back I found none.So I left it alone but will try to bang it out.
