Question Is an LT1 to C5 brake conversion possible?

It seems like you could just bolt the C5 adapter bracket to the spindle if the spindle itself is modified (cutting sides off) as seen here:

I figure I'd start from scratch instead of buying a whole "kit" with used rotors and hubs I don't need. Thoughts?

I'm not sure I understand your question. You're looking at a picture of it having been done. That's always how it's worked with the adapter brackets. You dont buy a kit with hubs, at least I've never seen one. The only kit I bought, besides Bishop's brackets, was all the other parts I did need (rotors, calipers, abutment brackets, sliders, hardware, etc.)

Maybe I should have specified that picture above is of an LS1 spindle.

Ok, and? It doesnt matter, LS1 or LT1 spindle. Any adapter bracket will work on either, the only difference is how much of the spindle you have to cut off.

Yes, the LT1 spindle has 2 ears to cut off while the LS1 is only one. The first step in UMI's instructions says this- http://www.umiperformance.com/c5conv.aspx

I have done installs on both cars, its the same.

Yes, and it ROCKS...I have one with C5 calipers, slotted rotors and Z06 pads and I love it. Cool thing is that I heard the C6 14" brakes bolt right on C5's... meaning they'll bolt to our adapter brackets as well. Guess what I plan on doing...

Hope you got 18 inch wheels.

To my knowledge, nobody has stress tested Bishop's brackets with a C6 setup. You're looking at higher loads on the bracket with the calipers out that much further.

Re: Is an LT1 to C5 brake conversion possible?

True. But as stout as those pieces are, and as much overkill on strength as they are claimed to have, makes me alot more comfortable on using the C6 brakes with them. I wouldn't consider them with some of the cheaper brackets out there. Maybe I'll drop bob a line and see what he thinks.

As good as the C5 brakes are, I would assume that the brakes would lock up the wheels before damaging the brackets even became a concern. I'll post the results.
