jounce bumper importance?

How important are jounce bumpers to a periodically driven, hotchkis lowered, 17.5x9 (WS6) wheels w/ 275/45/17 tire car? I am in the process of de-winterizing my car and realized that mice chewed these bumpers in half this past winter? I have not found any indication that they have done any other damage, probably because I put mouse poison in the garage before they could do further more. I really wanted to take the 'bird out this weekend if the weather is good. I don't plan on beating on it. Under normal circumstances, how close is the axle/chassis to hitting them? Should this be a concern?

My car frequently hits the bumpers and its not lowered. If they are not functional the rear end could bottom out into the frame. I would drive like a granny if you must.

I had stock suspension and were missing both of them. It would hit whenever there was more than 2 people in the car, any pot holes, or even sharp turns. It was a terrible sound that sounded like a loud thump. You can get them cheap from the normal gm sites, part number is on shoebox's website

Excessive compression can damage the shock absorbers.

2nd that. All you have to do is hit a crack in the road and it sounds like the rear end is hanging by a thread.

x3 i broke my rear konis when my original bumpstops crumbled away. leaked oil but koni sent me new ones $220 for both. good rebuild policy

i ran the SLP jounce things but took em off because the stock white pyramid shaped rear bump stops work better w/o the spacers, 315s
