Help! "thumping" noise coming from...
the Trans Tunnel area when under acceleration or under a load.
In a previous post I thought I may have a bum Torque Arm or TA bushing. Well, I put the rear tires on ramps tonight and crawled under to see what I could see. I actually was hoping to see something broken, hanging or shiny marks on a metal surface which would tell me where my noise was coming from. No luck!
What I found was my Corsa had about 3/8" clearance between the intermediste pipe and the the floor pan and assumed that was it. I adjusted the pipes, put it on the ground and did a 'mini' brake torque (w/o spinning the tires) to see if I found and fixed the problem. Again..no luck!
So I ask you guys... instead of throwing parts at this any thoughts from past expirience what it can be? It does it under a heavy load and I heard it when corner once or twice. I "think" it may be the trans mount bushing but from what I can see it looked "OK".
My car has 54k miles on it. Never been in sh!tty weather and all the rubber really looks good. I swapped out my LCA's last night and the OE stamped LCAs looked great. Rubber was in one piece, not balooned, not dry rotted and I probabably didn't need the the Spohn LCA's but I have them now and I'm not switching back. The torque arm was solid as well as the rubber bushing. Plus, I did not see how that could move around enough to hit the floor pan - it is not possible.
Anyway let's hear from the expirienced ones. I'd rather not guess at it and w/o seeing, hearing or feeling what is going on you might have a tough time pin pointing it but I'm hoping I'll hear a bunch of you saying they have been there done that. Alas... my XXXXX was bad and XXXX took care of the problem.
And again, I welcome your positive feedback.

If if is an M6, I'd say trans mount is beginning to separate. There is a little rubber bumper on top of the trans that hits the tunnel if the mount stretches too high under accel. Since you said 'brake torque', I'm guessing you're A4. They would probably do the same thing, but I've never had one so I can't say for sure.
I have a new trans mount and my clunk is gone. I also found witness marks from an exhaust band clamp bolt hitting the floor. Check for that, if applicable.

Thanks to all!
Those of you who figured it was the trans mount - you were correct.
Once I got my car up on all four ramps I could clearly see that the rubber was ripped right from the steel mounting braket.
A new Energy Suspension urethane unit fixed my problem.
Thanks again to all who gave their input.
