Hand Brake Adjustment

Hello everyone, I am new to this community but not necessarily new to camaros.

I am in need of some kind of DIY instruction on how to adjust the hand brake.
Mine you can pull all the way up and it will hardly stop the car from rolling.
My z28 is a 6 speed and my driveway is pretty steep and 1st gear doesn't always keep it from slowly rolling. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Shoebox has a guide to adjusting the cable - BUT ONLY IF YOUR Z28 IS 1993-1997. The fact that is has a 6-speed tells me you have a 4th Gen, but the e-brake is different on the LT1 compared to the LS1 cars:

The above answer is only valid if you also have a 1993-1997 LT1.

YOU BOTH NEED TO ADD A "SIGNATURE" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. If makes it very difficult to help you without this info. If you can't add a signature, at least include this info in your posts.

Re: Hand Brake Adjustment

The adjustment shown above should be a last resort. If your pads are highly worn, that is more likely your problem. The LT1 parking brake is just not very good (that's why they changed them later in the LS1 cars). If you adjust the cable and then replace pads, the brake can end up too tight. I seem to remember in the past that people said that if you held the button down on the handle and gave it a couple of sharp pulls, it would tighten up a little. Don't know if that is true.
