Do worn out shock mounts affect the height of the ride in the front? My front seems abnormally low even w/ 1" hotchkis lowering springs in. I didn't have the front mounts replaced when I put the new shocks in a year ago.

Anyone know by how much a worn mount can affect ride height? My mechanic said the old mounts looked "old" but still good enough to re-use at the time.

 

my car has 130k miles on stock suspension and my true duals scrape on everything if I'm not careful.

 

The shock mount shouldn't affect ride height. The ride height is basically controlled by the space between the lower spring seat on the shock and the upper spring seat that bolts to the shock tower (and is combined with the shock mount). A "gas shock" might provide a tiny bit of lift due to the pressure on the shaft, but that's not enough to appreciably affect ride height.

Generally a good idea to replace the upper spring seat/shock mount when you do springs and shocks, since the rotted rubber can allow the shock mount to tear out of the assembly. Its not going to affect ride height, but it going to reduce shock control and bang the shock shaft into the underside of the shock tower sheet metal.

 

Trashed mounts can lower your height. But I'm curious as to what the height actually is......

Sam - If you recall, I originally thought that my stock springs were sagging as my cars front was significantly lower (stock) than my friends car. But the new springs basically took the already low front and made it even lower. Probably 1.5"-2.5" compared to his car.

So I'm just trying to figure out why theres a difference. His car is probably 150 ish lbs lighter as it has minimal options and mine as all options. But if im doing the math right, the weight shouldn't be more than 1/4 of an inch in the front with 300+ lb/ inch springs.

I guess a starting point would be to get some real measurements, so im not just "guessing" at how much of difference there is .

His car looked jacked up compared to mine when we were both stock lol.

If you give me your tire size, the ground to the fender would be just fine.

 

Tire Size:
P245/50 R16 96W (Stock size basically)

The measurements before lowering, the tire pressure was probably around 32PSI all around. These were taken over a year ago, they were also on another set of worn out tires:
FL,FR,RL,RR
26.25", 27.1", 28.25", 27.5"

After the Hotchkis 1" Springs & Revalves, Front @ 35-37 PSI, Rear @ 30 PSI:
26.5", 26.5", 27", 26.75"

As you can see I upped the front pressure a bit to get a tiny bit more clearance....

 

That's not very low at all. Your friend's car must be on stilts.

 

I might be able to get some pics of the mounts close up, I have pics of his mounts when we did a header install just a few weeks ago.
He had his koni's from you put in on the lower perch... IT does look like hes on stilts beside me
