Front Calipers
Front Calipers
When I bought this Camaro I didn't notice but now that I have started looking at the front brakes I have concerns. I am wondering if these are after market calipers because the whole brake bad doesn't come down on the rotor all the way. Its like the bottom 3/4 of the pad touch the rotor but the top 1/4 to 1/3 sticks above it. Doesn't look right to me and I am sure that they are wearing faster than if the were on right. I am just wondering if anyone else with a 95 has this issue. They are good calipers but I am not sure they are the originals. They have dual cylinders but I wish I could adjust them but there is no way that I know of. Any idea's?

You need to figure out just what you have. As n2ceptor said, 1995 has single piston calipers. Duals start with the LS1 engined Camaros. You might have a car that someone put LS1 uprights and calipers on to upgrade the brakes but later, someone went to replace rotors and put on what the parts books say belong on 1995s. LT1 front rotors are ~11" and LS1 rotors are ~12". If your car has been given a conversion kit to use the C5 Corvette fronts then those would use ~13" rotors and also the calipers/abutment brackets would be mounted on a separate adapter and not directly to the upright forging.

Thanks guys. I will take a closer look at it. I think your right. the replaced the calipers but didn't bother to change the rotor to the proper one. I don't remember seeing a bracket but i could be wrong. It is dual piston but i don't know who made them. i guess I need to see if the bigger rotors would fit. I just know it's not right the way it is right now. I bet it will stop even better with the right rotors on it. That pisses me off too because I spent good money replacing the rotors already only I should have noticed and just sent them becak and tried the bigger ones at the time. thanks for the help. Is the whole pattern the same on the bigger rotors?

The wheel stud mounting pattern is the same on all of them. If the caliper assembly mounts on lugs that are part of the upright forging then you probably have LS1 uprights and would use the 98-02 (12") rotors. The change to the Corvette front brakes needs the separate adapter to make enough space for the Vette's 13" rotors. Check your brake pads ... you may be wearing them in a way that creates a "curb" and ruins them.
Best wishes for sorting it out.

the pads are ruined. I think it is setup for ls style ones because i don't remember a seperate bracket on it. I am going to get the new set of rotors and pads and be done with it. Thanks for all the help.
I just looked at them and I am positive it's the ls1 style. There is only about an inch to the top of the caliper from the rotor. i will order a set of those and some new brake pads and should be good.
