front brakes locked up

Wast driving to work and hit the brakes to avoid an accident. After that, the front brakes won't release. Any ideas? Tips or tricks? By the way its a 96 v6 body with a95 z28 lt1 brakes and suspention. Pedal get hard and the front brakes lock up.

Re: front brakes locked up

Might want to provide some basic info, like year and model of the car.

if your calipers over extended the pistons they could be stuck out... you would have to have had the rotors turned down Im pretty sure and the pads be on there last leg. Also if you ever pushed the fluid back into the system from the calipers while changing the breaks you could have dirt clogging your abs. Do you have any MIL?

Well the car is a 96 v6 body. I swapped in a LT1. I already replace the master, the abs pack, calipers, pads, rotors, and rubber lines. After that the front calipers are still locking up. They will release if it sits overnight

Re: front brakes locked up

But thinking about it alittle more it sounds like they are just locking up when you go to stop? if this is so try cleaning all of the abs sensors. and looking for loose wires connecting them to your abs system. I mean it sounds like at the most you could have blown a seal, but if you changed the abs pack it must be sensor related or in between?
dont forget the sensor in the diff.

maybe a better explaination of what you mean by locking up would help.

Re: front brakes locked up

If they're locking up after applying the brakes, either the hose is keeping the pressure applied, the caliper slides are frozen or the piston is getting stuck in the bore. When the front brakes are locked up, try cracking the bleeder open and see if that will release the brakes. If it does, the hose is most likely the cause. If it doesn't free up try compressing the caliper piston. If it requires a lot of force to compress that's probably you're cause. If it's fine, check the slides. With the piston compressed the caliper should move freely on it's slides. Try that out and get back to us.

yeah I forgot the slides... I have seen this too they could be getting stuck when heated up from breaking and be sticky making them free after they cool off. Some times you can have bad corrosion in there. check to see if there is any burrs also showing binding they should have caliper grease on them allowing them to slide easily.
