Convert X brace & 6 speed swap

Hi Everybody,

I have almost completed swapping the 6 speed into my Z/28 convert. Here's my question:

The convertible stamped steel X brace used to bolt to the A4 transmission crossmember. I got a 6 speed conversion out of a T top car. There is no way for the stock X brace to bolt to the M6 Transmission crossmember. Did M6 convertibles have a different crossmember or x brace than the Ttops and coupes?

I'd like to retain the X brace. What should I do?

The coupe and t-top cars have the same cross member. The crossmember is different for convertibles.

Re: Convert X brace & 6 speed swap

Jason, Just to clarify, the coupe and convert had different Transmission crossmembers, correct? So that would mean that GM made 4 trans crossmembers for LT-1 cars:

A4 coupe/TTop
A4 convert
M6 Coupe/TTop
M6 Convert

Sort of the coupe and the ttop cars share the same cross member. The convertible has a different one.
Like this:
  • Coupe and t-top has one for the A4
  • Convertible has one for the A4
  • Coupe and t-top has one for the T56
  • Convertible has one for the T56
Hope this helps

Re: Convert X brace & 6 speed swap

Thanks for the help! I'm sure that an M6 Convert Xmember is pretty scarce. if i cant find one from spohn, or KB, then I'll break out the welder and start making one. Thanks for the replies!!!

Install SFC's and throw the X brace away, you won't need it. That's what I did om my 95 vert bird. I actually got rid of it before the SFC install and couldn't tell a difference.

Did you notice a difference with the new SFC's? How did the fit on verts? I've been thinking about getting them but we have SFC's from the factory and they dont appear to be all that flimsy to me .

Oh ... what kind of SFC's did you go for ?
