caliper came off rotor, ebrake cable snapped, coincidence?
caliper came off rotor, ebrake cable snapped, coincidence?
basically yesterday i pulled into work, pulled up my e-brake and the cable broke off. no big deal i though, i park in gear anyway. anyways, i am driving home from work then all of a sudden i hear a bang and sounds like a bolt is flying around underneath my car hitting everything. i thought oh no, the rear end finally called it quits. i pressed on the brake it they felt extremely weird. this morning i take off the front driver side wheel (where i had nosie coming from after i heard the bolt thing). turns out the bolt that holds the caliper to the hub on the top came out, my caliper was resting on the spinning wheel, hence the noise. basically, i am wondering if my ebrake cable breaking, and then this bolt are a total coincidence, are if this is a sign of worse things to come
i do have an ls1 brake conversion in the front, and i run with no abs.
and to top it off one of my wheel studs broke off as i was taking the wheel off
if anyone wants a cammed 94 z28 i am really thinking about getting rid of it.

No responses after more than 24 hours may be because you put it on the wrong fourm.. "LT1 Engine Tech". I'll move it to "Suspension...... Brakes" forum and see if you get a better response.

romoranger,
I would seriously invest in a good torque wrench and locktite and go over everything on the car that you may have taken off or put on.
As for the E-brake cable snapping, probably a age thing with that.

thanks injuneer.
wbna ,when i touch anythging on my car i always torque it to spec.. although the last person to touch my brakes was a local shop. i changed the bolt today, along with replacing the wheel stud that broke as i took the wheel off. my passenger side was ok and still torqued to spec. when i looked at the driver side the bolt holding the caliper to the hub the bolt was barely even finger tight. maybe the guy didn't tighten them at all. i don't know. i put on loc-tite and torqued that bad boy down. this is strange. i have been trying to get a hold of my friend, as his dad owns the shop, since the day it happened, but i unfortunately have not been able to get a hold of him.
and is it imperative to fix the e brake cable? i never really used it that much before, i usually just park in gear. i don't want the cable coming out and catching something though
