brake replacement cost professionally?

can someone tell me how much would it be to replace both the front brakes of 94Z. I have no tools and no garage so I will probably bring it to a respectable shop.

1. how much would it be for just to replace the pads?
2. how about pads and rotors and everything else?

thanks

It will cost you less to buy the tools and the parts compared to how much the shops will rape you in the ***.......i did new front rotors and pads on my car for 170 bucks...that was with ceramic pads and autozone gold rotors

P.S. brakes not breaks

Okay.. I went to Meineke and this is what they quote me:

left ld left caliper A'ly
right ld right caliper A'ly
pads all the way around
Front rotor
rear rotor

parts and labor including tax = $615.29

the brand is Raybestos for everything.

what do you guys think?

Hehe, I'm stationed at Kirtland AFB.

Anyway, you can get the Baer street front brake kit (12" w/ dual piston calipers), rear pads and rear rotors turned for about $700. And if you're in the AF, don't go and tell me you don't have an auto hobby shop around you....

Re: break replacement cost professionally?

I'll do it for 25 bucks

It's those ceramic brake pads they are $$$. But it ain't worth $600, maybe for front and rear labor including GM ceramic pads, but not just front labor and pads

Re: break replacement cost professionally?

I can't remember, but i think i got all new GM pads all the way around for about $220. Did it when i had the Powerstop rotors installed. The fronts i believe go for around $125-$140 maybe more now. So if you are talking at GM i'd say shoot for $260 for front brakes and labor.

Then again if you drove up here to MI, you could pay $25 for labor instead of $120....lol Shops love to charge an arm in a leg for brakes because they are so easy and can be done in 30-40 minutes (that's with hand tools) and they get paid for 2 hour job.

^Is this why you are changing them?
Usually vibration does not have to do with the brakes.....unless it's vibrating during braking. Are you sure you need them? I would not trust a shop to tell you if they are good of not....they are money hungry. Pull the wheel and take a pic and post it, i'll tell you if you need new brakes....lol. No but for real take the wheel off and see how much pad is there, unless you have already checked. I just want to make sure your not getting ripped off by a shop....i have seen to many times pads changed when they were not needed. My mom is a mail carrier and comes to a dead stop about 500 times a day. She use to go threw brakes like once every two weeks, until i started to change them. Car goes months now before new brakes are needed and these are the cheapies....i wonder how?? Partly because they over torque the caliper bolts and over torque the lug nuts (which hurts brake pads more than you'd think) and do crappy work, but another thing is he was changing them when she didn't need them. O yea and that's why i can do brakes pretty fast.... 30 mins up and down usually with hand tools. O yea i get a lot of suspension diagnosis time too.....driving on back country roads all day and stopping all day that Explorer takes a beating.....I've probably seen every shake and vibration on an explorer.....lol.

Good Luck with the brakes. Shop around. You can definately get it done for around 250
