Brake problems

Hi guys nooby here with brake problems. I have a 97 Camero with a 3800 motor and auto trans. My prob starts with the abs light on. My mom inlaw had the car before me and her mech told her to not worry about it. No big prob the brakes still worked. Now I guess I let the resivour get low or I had a leak and it got air in the system. I tried to bleed the system and did fine at the modulater but I'm not getting any fluid at the rear brake bleeders and the pedal will not pump up and get stif like you get when you have air in the lines. The Haynes book says it may be a bad check valve but I can't find anything about a check valve in the repair section. Could any one help me out with this problem?

Re: Brake problems

The ABS light doesn't come on for air in the system, low fluid, etc. That would cause the "BRAKE" light to come on for uneven pressure in the front and rear braking circuits. Once you have a code in the EBCM (ABS computer) you usually have to use a Tech-2 or similar to "home" the ABS motors before you can bleed them correctly.

ABS INOP usually is a problem with a wheel speed sensor or other ABS system component. Yes, with that light on the brakes still work, but they no longer have the anti-lock braking feature.
