Re: brake improvements

A good upgrade for the money IMO would be to go with a Bear Claw 2 piston setup. I currently have this setup on my car and it made a HUGE difference in braking from the stockers. I know it will be less of a difference since you already have the better LS1 brakes from the factory, but for the $800 it will cost you, you get 4 new X drilled/slotted/zinc washed rotors, steel braded brake lines, + the huge two piston calipers that pretty much do not fade at all and will stop you on a dime. They will fit fine on your rims because I have the same on mine and they don't rub (unlike when I originally had 17X9.5 Konig Monsoons that it wore some rim away on).

If thats not enough stopping power, I would go up to a 6 piston kit. Most of these require you to step up to an 18 inch or larger size wheel, but will be a big improvement over the previously mentioned set up.

Re: brake improvements

What aftermarket replacements did you try?

I went with some better cast stock replacement rotors, Axxis MM pads, and some good brake fluid (ATE Superblue) and noticed a very nice increase in braking performance.

The only other thing I may do later is a C5 conversion.

Re: brake improvements

Thank you for your info.Would you replace the rears, or is it neccessary for a streater? Are there proprtioning problems? I have a BAER catalogue and it appears that only fronts are available. These being the GT-PLUS 13.15 2-PDC units

Re: brake improvements

The rear brakes for the 4th Gen F-bodies already come with Bear rears believe it or not. The kit will come with new X-drilled/slotted/zinc wahsed rotors for the fronts and the rears + new brake pads for all the calipers front and back. The proportions are fine with your current wheels. It'll be close and not leave much extra room, but you'll be okay.

Re: brake improvements

4th gen brakes and C5 brakes are made by PBR, not Baer.

Better rotors are heavier castings. Even the cheap Autozone blanks are better than the stock rotors. They weigh 2lbs more per rotor up front.

Re: brake improvements

I have been told by the people at Baer that PBR are pretty much the exact same as the Baer. Sorry for the confusion.

I acutally was referring to the bigger calipers that the LS1's have, Greed4Speed has a point also about the rotors as well.

Also, the answer is yes, even on your 94 to Gun5.

If you really want to go crazy, I have seen a few guys put bigger calipers on the rears as well. Overkill IMO even if you are heavily auto-Xing. But if you want the baddest stopping power for your 4th Gen and you have unlimited funds, I guess the sky is the limit.
