Brake fluid reservoir cap myth??????

I am having a problem with the brakes on my 1995 3.4 auto

my pedal intermittently goes soft and i have to pump it a few times to get the pedal to toughen up. the brakes are all new 4 wheel disc and it has plenty of fluid and there are no leaks

i fear the master cylinder may be going bad
but i have heard that if the reservoir cap isn't air tight the brakes lose pressure and the red BRAKE light will not light up...

any thoughts?

Just need to completely flush and replace the fluid.

Then you need to flush down the toilet the person who put oil in your reservoir or brake fluid bottle (not excluding yourself).

Also, just because you put the fluid in your system 3 weeks ago doesn't mean the fluid is 3 weeks old.
