Bouncey ride ...

I have a 95 camaro m6, never done anything to the suspension, and now it feels like it bounces every time I hit a little bump.
I would of paid any attention but this weekend I drove my brothers firebird and it handle pretty smooth.
my question is what's the first thing I should work on for a quality ride?? what parts & why ?? thanks again.

Re: Bouncey ride ...

Chances are your stock shocks have failed and are leaking. One of my original DeCarbons was leaking at 43K miles.

So if I put things in priority (suspension wise) what comes first or last ???
1) Shocks
2) Springs
3)
4)
5)

What are the top 5 must have suspension mods ???

Subframe connectors. EVERYONE needs subframe connectors (getting mine soon!)

What are your intentions for the car? Street? Strip? Autocross? What are your priorities? Ride, handling, hook? Depending on your answers, you may want to add a strut tower brace or upgrade your panhard rod, torque arm, lower control arms, etc.

Re: Bouncey ride ...

Well, it's my daily driver, I just want better handling. Mostly a street car.

Shocks & springs are a given, which are teh most popular brands for shocks & springs anyways??

Re: Bouncey ride ...

It also depends if you plan on lowering it or not.

If you are NOT lowering it [since it's a daily driver, I wouldn't suggest lowering it], I would get a set of Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks, a GM 32mm front swaybar [look on ebay first, if not, then goto gyrhead.com], polyurethane swaybar endlinks and bushings for both the front and rear swaybar [can get them at your local autozone]. And then I would look at getting a non-adjustable rear panhard bar with polyurethane bushings.

Now, if you DO plan on lowering it, spring choices are up to you depending on how low you want to go. The SLP Level 1 suspension package is a good choice. It comes with SLP specific Bilstein shocks [different from the HD's] and SLP Specific Eibach springs. And I would also get the front swaybar and poly bushings.

Or you can get springs from Eibach, BMR, and Hotchkis and go with Koni single adjustable shocks up front and Bilstein's out back.

Or you could give Sam Strano a call and ask for his opinion. I'm sure someone here has his number.

Bilsteins work well with the stock springs. A 32mm front sway bar works well with a 19 mm rear bar. A tubular panhard bar helps with hard cornering. Sub frame connectors mostly reduce squeeks, don't think you'll really feel the difference. Strut Tower Brace is just eye candy.

Re: Bouncey ride ...

The bilsteins and 32mm sway bar is a good set up. Its what I'm running and I have no complaints. I'm sure a 35 would be even better but I got my 32mm bar for free so no complaints at all.

I'd skip out on the SFC's. I welded on a pair, cant even tell theyre there. Maybe on a serious drag car theyd help but the only gain I got from them was probably 40 pounds a nice jacking rail along the whole side of the car.

I'll probably be cutting mine off, selling them and putting the money towards something else.

Re: Bouncey ride ...

SFCs made one of the biggest differences on my car. The rattles ansd squeeks all but disappeared. Overall feels more solid.

I have a rear adjustable tubular BMR panhard bar - can't tell how much that did for me really.....but I'm sure it does well

What was already stated hit it on the nose. What are you looking to do with your car? If you just want a nice ride and perhaps a car that handles well then I suggest stock springs with Koni single adjustable shocks; also a set of Sam Strano sway bars and you're set IMO. The dampers are the single most important decision when starting your suspension build, everything else follows after them. I personally would recommend you call and speak with Sam. He will set you on the right path and educate you on suspension setups.
