Re: What exactly do "Strut Tower Bars" do?

Strut tower braces are supposed to strengthen the car and increase the structural rigidity by tieing the strut towers together, making a squared off structure instead of a U shaped one.

Still, I think the general consensus in the F-Body community is that they don't really amount to much. Of course that's still a heavily debated subject, but most people now say that subframe connectors do 100 times more for the car, and that STBs do next to nothing.

they don't make a whole lot of difference in 4th gen f bodies for some reason, but i know the one in my honda made a HUGE difference. i guess f bodies are pretty stiff up there to begin with. most modern V8 cars probably are, since they need a lot of reinforcement for the extra weight of the engine as opposed to a little 4 cylinder tin can

I dunno about Fourth Gen'ers, but us Third Gen'ers gain a LOT by getting a Strut Tower Brace (STB).
Like others have said, it tightens the front end of your car up and is almost ALWAYS noticeable in ANY Camaro application.

Have you seen the size of the shock towers. They are huge. Wont be much flexing going on.

I thought I could feel a difference in cornering with mine, but it was so small it could have all been in my head. They look cool though!

I watched a thing on tv last might where they installed a bunch of them. Looked like the guy put in a roll cage.

Re: What exactly do "Strut Tower Bars" do?

I absolutely noticed a difference when I did mine. But I did front and rear STBs on my GS4 at the same time.

Some cars it makes a noticable difference, some cars it doesn't make much difference.

My lower chassis braces did more good, but not that much more good, and relative to their price the STBs were actually better bang for the buck IMO.

Re: What exactly do "Strut Tower Bars" do?

Strut tower braces dont do much for 4th gens because 4th gens don't have struts.

The suspension geometry does not concentrate loads in such a way that a strut tower brace would counteract. Some claim that they can tell a difference after an install, but the general consensus is theyre not needed for 4th gends.

I personally think they look ugly. Who wants to look at an old person bathroom hand rail under their hood?

They just get in the way every time you work on the vehicle.
