Anyone try Grand Sport brakes on a LT1 camaro?

I tried a search but didn't come up with much so...

I was just wondering if anyone had done it or if it will even work. If you have done it what all is needed? I need to start hunting for parts if this is possible.

Thanks
Archie

Re: Anyone try Grand Sport brakes on a LT1 camaro?

I have what is basically the same as the C4 grand sport brakes on my 96. The caliper I am using is not the grand sport caliper, but uses the same mount and the same brake pad. I believe the grand sport caliper is just stiffer. I have the same 13" rotors that the grand sport uses. This setup is really the same as the Baer Track pac setup. I did the same thing on my car for about $400, but I did have to make my own caliper mount. Really the C5 brakes or the LS1 brakes are better and if I were doing it over that is what I would use. They use a thicker rotor (1.25 vs. 1.0 inches) and the brake pads have more "sweep" area. I really just wanted 13" rotors to fill up my 17" wheels. What I plan to do in the future is put my 13" front brakes on the rear and then put some 13.5's up front with some 4-piston calipers. Since I only use drag radials on the rear I am sure that my rear could use a larger brake. My rear ABS never kicks in.

Thanks for the info.
I may just do the c5 brakes considering they are readily available and I already know how to put them on.
I guess I was about to do the same thing you were going for, 13" rotors.

Thanks again

Re: Anyone try Grand Sport brakes on a LT1 camaro?

I've had cars with LT1, 12" C4, 13" C4 (regular and GrandSport), C5/Z06, and LS1 (98+) front brakes. While the C4 13" setup is okay, I would recommend the 98+/LS1 12" setup over them. Both the 98+ f-body and C5 brake systems use larger calipers than the C4 setups, and also use 1.25" thick rotors versus a narrower C4 rotor (1.05" I think). Also, the 98+/LS1 brakes are less expensive, and actually give much greater swept area and better braking ability than the C4 setups. As to the difference in the C4 systems, the only difference between a regular C4/ZR1 caliper and the GS caliper is slightly more stiffness.
