94 Z28 parking brake not engaging
94 Z28 parking brake not engaging
Hi Folks, seems my left rear parking brake isn't engaging. I've never worked on an e-brake as part of the caliper before, only internal drum style. Everything is good until it gets to the actuator arm, which I can pull back and forth fully without any effect. I'm assuming the pushrod that goes between the actuating arm and the actuating collar is damaged or missing, but I can't really see in there, and other than the exploded view in the service manual, I can't seem to find any details on disassembly. I don't really want to start taking things blindly apart, and even if I get in there are replacement parts available? Or am I looking at needing a new caliper anyway?
I did find the free travel adjustment guide, but I think this is beyond a minor adjustment.
Side note, the actuating collar is just stuck into the two small return springs about 1/4 back, instead of into the hook on the end of the springs. Seems wrong, but it's like that on both sides, so is that normal?
Thanks!

Ok, I guess sometimes it just helps to talk out (write out?) a problem.
Found a couple good photos of rear calipers and, yes, the actuator arm had popped forward of the piston. Managed to get it re-engaged, but it seems the only thing holding it in place is that tiny spring washer. There's a distinct groove in the pivot pin, but I had to push it far below that to get it to hold the arm in place. Seems pretty ginchy... what's to keep it from loosening off again?! Seems to me tightening the nut on the other side wouldn't do anything... looks like it only holds the pin in the caliper, ya?
Also, by the looks of the parts photos, that is the correct placement in the spring for the actuating ring.
