1999 Camaro SS lower control arm REAR bushing help needed!!
Re: 1999 Camaro SS lower control arm REAR bushing help needed!!
This is the only thread I have found regarding this subject. I am replacing my bushings and ball joints right now. I went with the moog parts and have been hung up on the positioning of these voids as well. Looks like that is cleared up now, thanks for that.
I looked over the post a few times and did see where you mentioned an installed depth, but I cannot find where you mention what that ended up being. Would you mind commenting on that?
Also, I cannot seem to get these parts pressed in with the big C clamp tool from auto zone, do you suggest just having a suspension shop install them?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Regarding installed depth, I had an extra set of control arms that I eyballed in order to replicate the installed depth. This was on the lower control arms. You could use some pictures as a reference.
For the installation of the bushings themseves, I had to fabricate several metal sleeves to press the bushings in and to hold the control arm from the opposite side. I used a hydraulic press to do the pressing.
For the upper control arms I fabricated some half cicunference spacers to hold both of the interference diameters apart, because the control arm wanted to collapse when pressing the bushing in.
The ball joints were the most difficult to remove and install.
If you do not have access to this kind of tools and fabrication I would suggest leaving the install to a shop.
It took some time and effort, but the results were excellent. the car feels like the day I drove it off the dealership.
