[B]Good info,

I hadn't thought about a corvette spare.

The height difference would be 3.64" using your calcuations and depending on how exact the tire dimensions are.

I just checked the spare tire well. There isn't enough room for my finger much less my hand.

I don't think anything larger in dia will fit.

Perhaps the C4 spare with a motorcycle tire might fit. I don' t see any easy way to handle this.

Love it or leave it, not a problem on a race car, 50% reduction in usefulness of the spare on a street car.

My option was to toss the spare in the basement and get AAA. Since I have 3 cars a wife and 3 kids it was an easy choice.
Another idea if you have the bucks is to mount runflats

Don't you need the electronics IN the car to use runflats? Or are there ways to do without that?

Yes, you need the sensors on the wheels and the dash display.

I'm sure there are other systems out there. Not a cheap way to go.

And that somehow keeps your tires from ever going flat? Interesting..........I think I will take my chances with conventional tires and AAA for now LOL

Not to mention they're hard as rocks and loud as a KISS concert. Ask any C5 owner, they'll tell you what they think of run-flat tires.

The only spare that I know would fit correctly is the 17” C4 (4th gen Corvette) space saver spare. It was designed to fit over 13” front rotors. It came on 1989 and later C4’s. It was included on earlier C4’s which had the performance package which included 13” brakes and 17” wheels. It is a 155/70 17, which calculates to a 25.54” diameter.

The problem: I do not think that the 4th gen F-body spare tire well could accommodate the additional diameter of the C4 spare. If someone is interested, maybe they could go by a wrecking yard and test fit a 17” C4 spare in the well.
Forget that... I have a 17" C4 spare, as well as two 97-02 F-body spares...

The LS1 spare (actually my early-'97 came with this size spare so it's NOT just from 98+ cars) fits fine in the wheel well, kind of a tight squeeze, but you *can* make it fit. The C4 spare? good luck... even deflated it's a nightmare (although a valid option to fitment, I guess don't know if the carcass can handle being deflated for months/years like that before being reinflated).

The most interesting solution? Any convertible owner who has had the carpeting out of their trunk knows about the small tab that is tack-welded in the center of the front wall... and the tire-clearance indent in the rear wall. I tried using the U-hook from my stock spare to hold down the C4 spare in the dead center of the trunk and it worked good... until I hear one tack weld give way.

If you used a ful-sized spare, or even the C4 spare to save "some" trunk space, you'll want to grind and fully-weld the tab onto the trunk wall... the tack welds just won't hold. Maybe you could get the spare rim chromed and incorporate it into a stereo system layout or somthing.

Personally, I'm just going with AAA unless I'm making a REALLY long road trip to no-where... then I'll just go with a full-sized spare and call it good.

ONE LAST THING...
We really hate to be a party pooper, but can those of you who are posting about technical issues that are not directly related to this GP please take the discussion from this thread to the brakes forum here? We'd like people involved in the GP to be able to easily read what is going on with it. Thanks!

If everything goes right, I think it is safe to assume mid-late July when they start shipping.

How are you going to work in people from the backup list? Does order matter or will it be a free-for-all? Just curious if I have to stay up late on Wed night to get my order in.

Thanks.....

They will shuffle into the list in the same order they were in the backup list. As an opening is created, it will be filled in the order of the backup list.

It doesn't look to be a problem, we may have to open this up to anyone. There appears to be more openeings now than people on the backup list.

Not a problem, things will continue moving ahead.

Tomorrow afternoon, I will move the people from the backup list into the buyers list and send them notification on how to place the order.
