Thinking of moving to FLA...
Just thought I'd post and say I really enjoyed alot of the info in this thread. The g/f and I will be moving to Florida in 2 years. Right now I'm looking at Tampa/Clearwater, Sarasota or Orlando.. We'll be going down next summer to start looking seriously...
Anyways, I won't bore you all with my story(yet
).. I just wanted to share that it's nice to know there are plenty of friendly people in this section when the time comes, and to say I appreciate the advice so far.

Glad to hear it Sam. Once you adjust to the heat, there's no place like Florida. If I'm still in this house next summer when you guys come to scope the area, you're welcome to stay here. Seems like I always have guests or a party going on anyways
I'm about 5 minutes from downtown Sarasota.

Wow, thanks! It would be great to have someone to tell me the areas to go/where not to go, etc... where the local street racing spots are.. important stuff like that.
I know my sister and her husband lived in Lakeland for a couple years and hated the heat. Course he's from Michigan and they both love cold weather (
)... I really look forward to it, and my g/f ,being from Laos, loves the heat also..
I do have a question... What would be the closest track to Sarasota? How far is the track in Bradenton? That the closest one?... Oh and a big question: Are the tracks open year round? I've always assumed but never heard for certain...
Thanks
Sam

I don't know that Bradenton ever closes. I'm about 15 minutes from the track (20 in bad traffic). If you're a track-a-holic, Sarasota/Bradenton is a great place to live. Tampa/St. Pete, and you're looking at an hour's drive.
As for street races... I'll tell ya later. I don't go though. Cops are bastards about it.

The average rent for a decent apt. will be around $800/month and about $900 for a house. These are just ballpark figures. It all depends how nice of a place you want to have.
The closer you are to downtown, the higher the rent will be, and visce versa.

We do have apt. rent for like $500, but it's really hard to come by. The apts near my college average about $750, so if these places are that much, I'd assume a much niceer place will run you more.

Ok, here's a question.... Anyone on here rent apts/have a place for us to possibly stay for a month or two until we can get on our feet and get into an apt, and find jobs? We want to come at the end of sept. beginning of Oct. Thanks.

The track in Bradenton was pretty nice the last time I was there (1999). Also they are correct in stating "Don't go to Florida trying to change things" when I 1st moved there there were designated topless beaches, girls selling hotdogs while wearing T-backs. The old blue hairs moved down and bought their way into the local county commissions and made strict rules against those nice natural things that used to be a favorite part of Florida.
Like the bumper stickersI liked the most said: You Love NY? Take I-95 North! and my other favorite "Welcome to Florida, Now Go Home!"
I will be back there very shortly...after I get my wife to understand that it is time to go back home to the Gator Country where the whine and the women are free!
Good Luck on your move.
