I am a tech with teh county get 26 an hour and love the job.. I can tell you this I will be here no less than three more years.... I have 157 windows XP boxes, 7 2K servers and everything I could want... email kmakb@ocps.net

 

if i wasn't in school i'd jump on that like you wouldn't believe...

 

What kind of duties will this position actually be responsible for?

Just making sure the PCs are updated and running properly and maintain the network or what?

 

Okay my typical day:

Come in 7:00 (7:30 is show up time)
Check email
Turn both labs on and verify everything is working and all updates are current
Answer service calls everything from:
I lost an icon to how do you do this in word or dreamweaver
If needed I add drops form the punchdown, but this is not required I just know how
I remotly ocnnect into certain machines to update them
I backup the servers, defrag ect..
I tinker with the web site
I make cables, cat5E
I plan with my pcoket pc
Check status of network antivirus
answer calls
order equipment
plan inservice trainings
keep track of inventory

Stuff like that............

I also carry 8GB of mp3's on one server Study/read periodicals related to 2K/XP

 

Do you work at this particular facility?

I'm in need of a job, I put my two weeks in here at Dua Computer Resources (DCR) and Lockheed Martin about a week or so ago. What I do here is just not what I want to be doing... Managed Staffing, I have ne desire to do this type of work. On the other hand I am going to be going to UCF for Computer Science... I'll be signing up for next semester soon.

I graduated last year, from Winter Park High School, and I took a full year off. I couldn't go straight back in to school, I needed time off.

Anyway, let me know a little more about the job. It deffinately sounds like something that I would be interested in.

 

I am at another site..... It is a great job because I get to work at 7, I do not need to be here until 7:30 but that is me. I am done at 3:00 I get home form the gym by 4:45/5:00 and I have the rest of the evening for me. I do have VPN access and do VPN in and use altiris to do some things, but I do not have to...

 

Man.. I would do that... but... just too much damn school at the moment, and my current job is really slack.
