first of all...having a hood makes plenty difference. on the ls1 cars the air enters under the lid. so with the hood closed it doesn't get as much air as if open.
second....they have a fan it's about 4 feet in diameter.
also they run the engine at operating temp. they showed the car temp at the 195 range. most other places run the engines cold or maybe at 160. big difference there in numbers.
does this math make it better for you
266 divided by .83 (17% loss) = 320 so to me it's a more accurate way of dynoing. so when dynoing with hoods open, engines cold, air lids open, you get false higher readings.

an n/a engine can only suck in a specific amount of air......i doubt that amount changes with the hood open or closed.
it would be interesting to do a back-to-back dyno testing to see if there is a difference.........im guessing less than 5.
as for having a fan, someone else said they did not.......i was just commenting on that.
yes an engine can only suck i nx amount of air. but if the underneath of the hood is too close to the inlet, it will restrict the amount of air going in. just like any air intake design. for the lt1 cars for instance. taking the stock ducting off and putting the k/n FIPK kit has shown up to 20 peak hp more. has nothing to do wit hhow much the engine can pull in. has more to do with intake tract restrictions not allowing the amount of air needed to get in. yes one day someone should do a back to back run. vinci said they have on the SS cars and it picked up. seeing as how the air enters the center of the hood makes a 180* turn to get to the front. then makes another 180* turn to get into the air lid.
as for the fan, just clearing up that they do have one. so no misinformation is out there.

and yes we are cheating that day with the hoods up. but the hoods on thirdgens don't cause any restriction. and no that's not me. here's mine. the governer broke i nmy tranny during the first run. so only had 1st gear. no n2o run yet. maybe in 2 weeks.

Please remember that Vinci has a policy of dyno'ing all cars with the hood down. I'm not sure if they use fans. This does make a large difference in the results.

i was thinking of CAI cars...........i can see how it makes a difference on ramair cars!
