Bithlo Dragstrip February 3rd, 2006
You asked for it...
Well, going out to Bithlo was actually one of the last times I got to ride it. I had a problem:
Go somewhere. Store, DanB's mom's house, restaurant, whatever. Go inside. Stay outside. Hell, it didn't matter. If I turned the bike off after riding somewhere it would not start up again. So I replaced the battery. After all, it was at least 2 years old (old for a bike) and it had been discharged too many times in this manner to hold a charge.
Rode on it OK, but was too dumb to ever bother getting the problem fixed. After a bit the new battery developed the same problem. I Googled my *** off and found a troubleshooting flowchart online. Went through the whole thing, found no faults in the charging system EXCEPT only 12.25 volts across the terminals. I did a diode and continuity test on the regulator/rectifier, and it passed the test. I was gonna just buy a new one and cross my fingers, but I'm so incredibly opposed to fixing problems in this manner I haven't been able to do it. After that it's the stator, which is $$$, and then I'll just buy a new wiring harness.
I might have just sold the damn thing by now but it doesn't run and it's got so many scratches and dings I don't think anyone would actually pay me for it. I mean, you and that other guy both have new, pretty bikes with way lower miles than mine and no one is buying those. By the way, can we make that other "Bike for Sale" thread sticky already? I was going to post up in that thread to do this but since I've already been a jerk in other parts of this site today I thought I might get banned. Hmmm, maybe tomorrow.

Well, looks like it's gonna storm all night in Central Florida. Not looking too good. Sucks the big one. Oh well, maybe we can do this get together a little later.
Re: Bithlo Dragstrip February 3rd, 2006
Well, part of the reason our bikes aren't selling is because it's not riding season, per say. Not very many people buy bikes during the winter. Once it starts warming up and people are starting to look for bikes for the summer, they'll both sell quickly. I was hoping to not have to wait that long, but it looks like that's how it's going to work.
If you still haven't fixed it in a couple months I'd put it up for sale, I can almost guarentee someone will buy it once it's warm out. People are always looking for a project, and anyone that's good with electronics would pick yours up.

Sean, I've never actually seen your 4th gen, I've only seen the 84 which was sold a really long time ago. Tells you how often I get out these days. Your more than welcome to come out.

Yeah, Mike, I know most people buy bikes in March or later to ride during the summer. It pisses me off though cause I hate riding in the summer heat and I like the cold weather. Hell, I've had my t-tops off for the last 2 weeks or so. I finally got some income now so I'll probably be buying a regulator/rectifier in the next couple weeks and hopefully that works.
If the weather is good and you guys all head out there good luck and go fast.
