Anyone in the srq area done a m5 to m6 swap

I'm currently running a world class m5 behind my 350, and it's starting to take it's toll on the tranny. I'm going to be installing a m6 in it's place and was wondering if I'm the first to do it in this area. If not, I'd like to see your work so I can get the idea of where the crossmember needs to be and all the little odds and ends.

I've got the swap

I'm in Pensacola (a little far for a look) and a big headache that I could save you is to use an LT1 starter. The teeth on a L98 starter don't quite match up and about 50% of the time when you start it, you have to bump the starter 6 or 7 times until it lines up good.

You will need to cut the rear of your shifter hole on the trans tunnel about 1 - 2 inches, and I suggest using some spacers on the shifter so not to tear up the leather shifter cover when you put the car in reverse.

I purchased a x-member from e-bay the fits in the stock holes for the t-5.

No drive shaft mods needed.

Anything else? It is not too hard, the whole job should take you an afternoon if you have all the parts and nothing goes wrong.

Good luck!
Mike

Was the clutch cylinder replaced? Or did you use all the stock t5 clutch system with the t-56 just a different clutch?

No, you will need to use t-56 everything, most connections are differant. You can mount everything in the stock locations though.

The big advantage of having a t-56 vs. t-5 is that you can run 4.10 gears with a t-56 and have just about the same streatability as a stock gear and a t-5.

Do you have your t-56 yet? I am doing an LS1 install in fall and I will need to sell my LT1 style t-56 spam

Well... I thought the tranny was going out so I was going to do the swap. Turns out the tranny was comming unbolted from the bellhousing.... How much would you want for your tranny in the fall.. whats that, like 4mths away or something. I'd be intrested in picking up the tranny and getting all the parts elsewhere. Your just going to swap in a newr t5-6... so all you'll want to can in the tranny right? Seriously, let me know. I'm installing 3.73 next month so further down the road I'll be looking again.
