Anyone know anything about the florida DMV point system?

Basically got a letter in the mail warning me of being close to getting my license suspended.

I knwo the 12 points in 12 months, and I think 18 points in 18 months, I am at 18points in 36 months, if I get 24 points in 36 months I get my license suspended for a year.

Well I know one of my 4 pointers was I think november 99 so should be gone soon unless there is something for 48 months?

Either way I am ok, I will be hitting up driving school if I get any more points but damn when will this vicious cycle end.

Funny thing is I bet if you got a V-8 car you wouldnt have a problem with tickets. When you know your bad theres no need to drive fast. You have nothing to prove. I drove alot faster in my old Berreta than I did in the IROC.

3 years driving and the only warning I ever got was in the slow car

points should come off your record after 3 years...least that's what happened with mine.

i think it's just a formality of when you appoach the 18/in 18 they send you notification.

i remember getting one when i was at 17 in 18mths.

slow down...if you know you are close...don't be stupid.

when you get a ticket.............call a traffic lawyer.........they have them in most cities.

basically they goto court for you and convince the judge to let you pay a fine and take traffic school again (even if youve taken it that year already), and not get any points on your license.

costs about $100-200 in addition to your ticket cost, and traffic school, but hey..........it beats losing your license

As for the tickets I wan't trying to prove anything I woudl have been driving jsut as fast in any car, well except for one. Was screwing around on a twistie roade(nobhill between 595 and broward boulevard, and blew by 2 cops doing 77 in a 45)

One ticet was B.S., failure to stop at a stop sign(rolling stop in a parking lot at 2 am, driving normal, road was clear)

the earliest ticket is was form 11/10/99, and I was convicted 4/25/00

and the most recent ticket is 8/7/01 convicted 9/7/01.

So almost 2 years ago. I have been using lawyers recently and I get them for free(ucf lawyers).

I can definetely take drivng school.

BTW, they changed the law right so now its unlimited driving school in FL? right?

I think you have to get a court order from the judge to go more than once in a year.

hehe I know that

FRom my understanding is that you can take the 4 hour course then the 8 hour course within a year. But can only go to driving school 5 times in your life.

Then I heard it switched you can do this for as long as you want to in your life and then modified the point system a little.

Havent been on the board in a while and just caught this. Seems like no matter how bad *** your car is, as you get older things change. I have been stopped 3 times in the last year after doing mods on the car or tinkering all day. Basically I was acting like an *** and got caught each time. No licence on me, no shoes, smelled like a pig from sweating and they just said have a nice day.

Not only that, when you are out at 2am in a parking lot rolling through a stop sign, he was fishing for a DUI. THey figure why else would someone be out at this time. I got nailed when I was about 21 for the same thing in the Calico Jacks parking lot. He followed me for about 5 miles before pulling me over than made up the stop sign thing as an excuse. I didnt get the DUI that night.

My license was suspended 4 times before I learned. I always had fast cars too so I dont think that theory works.

Your points will never come off, the insurance companies only look back 3 years, well at least most do.
12 pt in 12 months is a month suspension
18 pt in 18 months is 3 months suspension
24 pt in 24 months is a year suspension
Here is the Fl dot website and it will expain more
www.hsmv.state.fl.us

BTW, I have over 50 pts on my license in the past 6 years and only has been suspended 3 times, one for a month another for 3 months and the last one for a year! My insurance is 202 for basic pip and not full covarge or uninsured motorist! What can i say i love driving my camaro!

hehe luckily I never got pulled over after working on my car I tend to flog it a bit after I fix it or upgrade it, usually dirty and no license or shoes.

As for getting pulled over for the suspected DUI thing, I have been pulled over a couple times for that but always given warnings, but I could tell they were checking to see if I was drunk or not. Which I don't mind, college area, drunk driving is everywhere. Jsut why give me a B.S. ticket?
