Anyone in Central Florida that can do a diagnostic free or cheap?
Anyone in Central Florida that can do a diagnostic free or cheap?
I will be putting a new exhaust on my car soon(it is filled with pieces of the catalyst), and don't really have the money to spend $70 or so on a OBD1 diagnostic.
Are there any local shops that will do it considerably cheaper, or any locals that have a nice scanner they'd be willing to test my car with? 94 LT1's will not simply flash the codes.
I am also looking for a local shop that will change the plugs(wires are OK) on an LT1, including the one under the alternator)
for a fair price.
Thanks,
-David-

AutoZone can't do anything with OBD1 when it won't flash the codes on the service engine soon light. They do not have a computerized scanner for OBD1, they just have a free key that jumps the proper pins to flash the check engine light. Unfortunately the 94 OBD1 LT1's will not flash the codes this way. A full scale scanner would be needed.

Autozone can only do OBD2, but they use a little scanner deal that reads the codes, interprets them, and can reset them.
Plugs are easy enough to do. Let me know if you can't find anyone else to do them. I am just kind of out of the way and only avail weekends and evenings.....

I'm pretty close to you, I'm in Tuscawilla, I can help you do plugs. It'll probably take about 2 hours, maybe less(haven't done them in a while). I'm free most weeknights after 5 so let me know. I have a garage we can do it in if you're at an apartment.
As far as reading the codes I don't know, you'd need to find someone with a scanner because most shops are gonna charge you ~$50 to scan your car.
Tyler, do you have one?
BTW, why do you need to scan your car? The cat being clogged shouldn't throw any codes(no o2 behind the cat on OBD1's). Oh, and what kind of exhaust are you getting to replace yours?

Camride,
I have never thrown a code...My car just runs completely horrible, and if the plugs aren't the only cause, i'm wondering if its a sensor somewhere that's out of whack, but not enough to throw a code. A complete diagnostic will catch some things that a service engine soon light won't.
I was looking at replacing my exahust with a Hooker Aero Chamber. I have found several videos of the exhaust on this board, and i love the sound. The only problem, is that my previously quiet Magnaflow muffler has now become very loud and annoying after gutting my cat. I am not really sure which muffler to replace it with, as my exhaust has developed the ear splitting drone around 2,000 RPM that so many people on this board complain about. I don't want to have a louder muffler installed, since I might end up short of hearing.
As for the plugs, I'll take all the help i can get. I do have a garage, but i doubt i can make enough room in it for my car
I work until 5 so we should be able to work something out.

As far as the drone goes, the only way to really get rid of that is install a high flow cat. Just about any system with a gutted cat is going to be loud, since the cat does alot of muffling itself. But that's up to you. I haven't been feeling real good the last few days, but maybe we can do your plugs early next week, like monday or tuesday? We can do them at my house in the garage, in case it rains....I mean when it rains. Let me know if that works for you.
Tyler, would you be able to make it?

Camride,
I guess I'll have to live with the volume of the exhaust ...I noticed today that the exhaust tone is different out of each tailpipe, so I will be having the muffler replaced tomorrow, either a stainless alternative to Flowmaster that's the same price, or a new brand called XLerator will be going on.
Early Next week would be great! I work till 5pm, so any time after that would be good.
Robert(mrr23),
If Tyler can't scan my car on the day Camride helps me with my plugs, I'll definately be giving you a call.

I just had the Flowmaster 80 series installed. Although Flowmaster wouldnt have been my first choice, I had it installed since it's all they had in stock. All I can say is WOW...It sounds insane! Even if i barely touch the gas i can feel it in my chest it's so deep.
But the downside to all this is that I can really tell how bad my car is running with the flowmaster installed. I think I need the diagnostic done before I have one of you help me with the plugs to rule out another underlying problem that could exist.
To those of you who offered to scan my car...Could we try to get it done in the next few days?
Tyler, Since you have one of the laptop/ALDL connector deals, would you happen to have a program like LT1 Edit as well?

No I do not have LT1 Edit. I am contemplating buying it though. If I did it would cost 75.00 to add your car on. I am pretty busy when you hook up with Camride he will let me know. As long as its on the weekend of FRI. night I am come by and scan it.
Hope I can help...

Tyler,
I actually wanted to try and get it scanned before then, since I can really tell it's running horrible since installing the Flowmaster. But since it seems that's not going to happen, I guess I can wait until Camride is ready to help.
I guess since the plugs need to be changed anyway, I can have Camride help me change them, and worry about the scan when you have time. Do you use FreeScan, or one of the other(paid) programs out there?
Just lost my job, so if any of this can be done earlier in the day, let me know.
