anyone hear that boom/long thunder clap last sunday 4th of july??

was wondering I heard it here in Metro West Orlando and now on the "mothman in my back yard" thread in the lounge a memeber from Ormond Beach said he heard the same thing..
it was like a thunder clap that kept rolling like a loud train in a tunnel for a long time..really longtime..it was around 2PM or something...it was mentioned on the radio too..just no one said anything about it...??? weird??

anyone else hear it??

I heard it in Winter Springs. I thought it was later though, maybe around 4:00 or so. All the knuckle heads in my neighborhood were shooting off stuff from the streets and I thought somebody blew their house up. No sirens though.

Now I really want to know what it was. Maybe a sonic boom from a plane or something.

I replied in the lounge. I too heard the same sound. I think it occurred a little later in the day over here as well, maybe 4/5pm? Started off sounding like a sonic boom, but lasted too long. It was thundering/lightning pretty badly around the same time, but I've never heard a rumble of thunder that lasted for +1min, and seemed to start somewhere to the west, get right to where I was then progressively get further away. It was like nothing I had ever heard before.

Holy **** I heard this too, I thought it was a space shuttle taking off. Real wierd. Maybe someone had some heavy explosives somewhere, or maybe the gov was testing bombs/a project on and using this time of year to cover as a storm, or maybe fire works.

I heard a caller on the radio discussing this today. He said that he was watching the news a few days after it happened, and saw a "teaser" saying the news channel had a story on it coming up. He didn't get to watch the story, but from what he gathered it seemed to be a meteor that entered the atmosphere over central Florida and continued off to the east. Supposedly a Seminole County sheriff's officer had someone pulled over and recorded a bright streak of light across the sky on his dash camera. I tried to search for this footage everywhere I could think of, but had no success in locating it. It's an idea though, if someone wants to pursue it.

You heard that on Real Radio during Otto's hosting of the Phillips Phile eh??

I too heard from Casselberry... Kinda freaky, there has been a lot of speculation but nothing solid or trustworthy. I cant imagine a meteor entering our atmosphere without our knowledge and pre-warning. But uhh.. What the hell else could it have been? I've heard scuddlebutt along the lines of govt. testing of a new aircraft, and using cover of 4th of July fireworks to keep it covert...

usually bigger rocks will explode when they hit the upper atmosphere, kinda like popcorn. the same thing happened over western russia in 1908, but it exploded only 200 feet above the ground, wiped out 250 sqaure miles of uninhabited forest, more powerfull than modern Nuclear weapons. Useless info for ya.

I heard through the grape vine that a lady in casselberry heard the sound and a little while later saw Nasa vehicles around some area close to her place. Other then rumors I haven't heard to much, but if it was a meteor they most likely would have had it on the news and the story would have been published....i mean its not like our govement would try and hide information about an astriod comming to kill us all...or ufo's.

If a meteor the size of a basketball hit the ground it would leave a crater as big as a truck, i just find it ironic that not to long ago a meteor hit a persons house in New Zeland..it was the first ever to hit a house...the property damage was like a few thousand. But if one did hit around here, someone would have heard about itand it would be on the news....but Nasa just showing up....they dont come for nothing.

that wasn't the first to hit a house ... plenty of houses have been hit, as have cars and all sorts of other things. its much more common than you may think.

i believe 2 people in the history of recorded time have been hit ... one was a long *** time ago, and the other was less than 100 years ago. if i recall correctly the guy within 100 years got hit in the head and didn't survive.
