Stupid PCM question...

I have a '97 A4 LT1, and I need to find a PCM and wiring harness...What PCM's will work? I've been told both '96 and '97 A4 PCM's will work and I've been told ONLY '97's will work...What is the truth?

You can use either a 96 or 97 as far as I know, you definitely need to get one that was from an auto car, one from a manual would not work. I don't think there is any difference between the two years though, they are both OBDII.

I believe that Ken Kelly at www.carputing.com sells reconditioned PCM's for ~$150 and can load a stock file for you. The serial numbers will not match though.

1996 or 1997 should work fine. You could also use the 1996 or 1997 harness with an OBD-I pcm if you wanted. It is harder to use a 1994-1995 harness with an OBD-II pcm, though.
